(Seriously, this man is taking WAY too much of my time!)
Willoughby truly loved Marianne and her family. But why does his heart, which seems in such accord with Marianne's, wind up being so changeable and fickle?
He's so selfish. Elinor, ever the cool and rational one, can see through the surface and is suspicious of what's underneath. Unlike her mother, who is so like Marianne, and fits the excuses to the actions to ease her emotions. It's amazing how trusting Mrs. Dashwood is, how blind she is, how much leeway she gives this man who has caused her beloved daughter so much pain.
